Running Scared

When : Feb 25th 2006
Title : Running Scared
Starring : Paul Walker.Plot: Gangster who is stashing mob used guns instead of dumping them for insurance, when one is stolen by the kid next door to shoot his father, himself a Russian mobster.
Review : Word of warning, not for the kids, One of the reviews said that they had not seen a so completely R rated movie in some time… I have to concur Nudity, Sex, Violence, Gore blood splatter, violence language and sex aimed at children, it covers all the bases. Some criticism has been centered on the unlikely coincidences in the film, but for me at least the movie was too fast paced for it to register. There is a scene in the middle of the film that is unnecessary, but is such a great intense scene it is obvious why they didn’t cut it. I am not a noisy movie goer but I clapped at the climax of that scene.

Pink Panther

When : Feb 21st 2006
Title : Pink Panther
Starring : Steve Martin, some other people who would rather remain anonymous.
Plot: Inept detective is enrolled to solve a high profile murder to make his boss look good.
Review : Truly an awful film, so many ways that it sucked but probably the worse was that it just wasn’t funny. There were a few visual gags that were amusing but they were ALL on the trailer. Long embarrassing pauses that either I missed a joke, or were just there .

Firewall

When : Feb 14th 2006
Title : Firewall
Starring : Harrison Ford, some other people.
Plot: Security guru at bank is coerced into helping thieves who have taken his family hostage.
Review : Thought it would be a remake of hostage… and to some extent it is, but this is a great film in it’s own right. Some really intense scenes, and creepy moments, definitely edge of your seat stuff.

Hoodwinked

When : Feb 11th 2006
Title : HoodwinkedStarring : Errr… no one? I don’t know it’s a cartoon
Plot: Follows police investigation of a plot to steal Granny’s recipes.
Review : Surpriseingly good, I actually got dragged along to this and ended up enjoying it. You know the story of red riding hood, now see the story through the eyes of Red riding hood, the wolf, the axeman and Granny… interesting cameo from the mountain goat… very off beat funny film.

Brothers Grimm

When : Aug 28st 2005
Title : Brothers Grim
Starring : Matt Damon, Heath Ledger
Plot: Brothers con superstitious villagers into paying for exorcisms, until they encounter the real (or perhaps the unreal) supernatural.
Review : Very confusing plot line, felt as if huge chunks of the film were just hacked out. There is some great comedy as you would expect from Terry Gilliam but they could not make up for the patchy story and the "is this real or is this not" feeling one got.

Valiant

When : Aug 21st 2005
Title : Valiant
Starring : Ewan McGregor
Plot: Undersized wannabe hero signs up to fight the Hun, exhibits bravery beyond his stature to safe the day and win the war… did I mention he was a pigeon?
Review : Animation wasn’t the best and the story was kinda weak, but the comedy was good and easy for the adults and kids. Some of the language may be a little tough for those non Londoners out there Favorite line “you should be Yay high and your not even hey high”

Red Eye

When : Aug 19th 2005
Title : Red Eye
Starring : Rachel McAdams / Cillian Murphy
Plot: Creepy guy meets girl on plane and terrorizes her, girl gets even and then some!
Review : Very tense thriller, and man is that guy creepy looking. Several bits to make you jump out of your skin, and some pretty gruesome imagery. This film was somewhat spoiled by the number of kids in the audience, serve us right for going on a Friday, but still this film was well worth the ticket price. Favorite line “there goes your pen dude”

The Island

When : Aug 6th 2005
Title : The Island
Starring : Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, Sean Bean (one of my favorites)
Plot: ## Semi spoiler ##Futuristic setting for the survivors of a contamination that has made earth uninhabitable, except for "the island". Survivors wait the chance to win the lottery to go to the island, Reality is that they are clones being kept illegally for the rich and famous to provide replacement body parts. All runs smoothly until one of the clones gets curious....
Review : We didn't go see this when it came out because it sounded a little too weird, but when Dukes of hazard got panned we decided to give it a whirl. I am so glad we did, this was a great film. The storyline worked much better than I had imagined, the Acting was superb and the action was truly awesome, I do not understand why this film never made much of a splash. Best line in the film is when Jordon 2 delta asks their human helper why the "clients" wouldn't want a visit from their clones he informs her "Just cause you wanna eat the burger, doesn't mean you wanna meet the cow"

Review: I knew I was going to hate this film from the first teaser 6 months ago... I have to admit I was 100% wrong. It is actually a pretty good film. Plot is kinda obvious, but its a kids movie and it is very funny, quite fast paced and reasonably well acted.

Title : Wedding Crashers
Starring : Vince Vaugn, Owen Wilson
Plot: 2 guys crashing weddings for the Booze (wilson) food (Vaugn) and loose women (both) until one of them breaks rule #345 love 'em and leave 'em....
Review : The Best comedy of the year without doubt, possible the best film. Dialog between Vaugh and Wilson had me crying. excellent supporting roles with the notable exception of Will Farrell, the only low point in the film. The film is a bit crude for the kids, but this is meet the parents on steriods.

Charlie and the chocolate factory

When : July 14th 2005
Title : Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Starring : Johnny Depp
Plot: Classic children’s story
Review : Seriously weird... If you liked the weirdness of the first movie you are in for a treat, because it pays homage to that, and then some. Depp is perfect for the role, but the Michael Jackson comparisons are freaky. The burping scene from the first film is cut, which was a suprise because let’s face it bodily function humour never fails. There is also a lot more emphasis on the life of Willy Wonka before and after the story. Supporting cast is good, with the characters really being Caricatures of the excesses of today’s society allows them to ham it up without stinking.
